Reliquary is a body work by Evan and Stacey Smith that investigates the relationship between sacred and secular, art and religion. In this show they have recreated objects that exist both in our daily lives and in sacred or mythic rituals. These objects, simultaneously ordinary and extraordinary, represent universal objects that have value to many different people and cultures. Reliquary joins the themes of art and religion, and asks whether or not these two themes have to be mutually exclusive or can exist in a space together. This work is manifestation of the beauty and value of religious objects while also understanding how these objects and what they represent have negatively impacted people. These themes which Evan and Stacey have been working and will continue to work on, don't offer any conclusions, but rather manifest a point in their journey to understand the relationship between sacred and secular, art and religion.
