Through the depiction of uncanny scenarios that mimic our own experiences, Take Care is an exploration of the ways in which we navigate the strangeness of everyday life. This body of work started with the piece titled Self Carewhich depictsthe aftermath of a burning dumpster that has put out the fire by immersing itself in a bathtub. This piece acts as a metaphor for how a person might put themselves back together after a tough time in their life.
Take Careis a collection of open-ended narratives that aim to look honestly at the strange moments in our lives. Through this show, we areworking through the messiness in our lives and critiquing how society has made the idea of “self-care” a trite and light-hearted concept. For us, it is the working through that provides the more interesting and meaningful story rather than the decision or outcome of the situation. Making these pieces provided us with an opportunity to work through these scenarios and investigate how we worked through them.
These concepts originated from our personal experiences, but we created the works to feel more open ended so that you might connect to them. We ask that you take time with this work. If one of the pieces doesn’t speak to you, try another. If there is a piece that connects with you, please reach out to us about it. The goal of this work is not to just reflect on our individual experiences but to see how our experiences are like yours, while understanding their differences.
“Take care” is a phrase commonly used when saying goodbye to someone to let them know that you hope they care for themselves while you are apart. So, we conclude by saying “Thank you for spending time with the work, and take care.”
