Low Vis explores how the infrastructural systems that surround us usually go unnoticed even though they obscure the natural landscape. By isolating infrastructure from its usual context, these paintings invite closer attention to the systems that shape how we move, see, and inhabit the world.  

This work began as an investigation into how infrastructure’s footprint provides basic human needs while at the same time obscuring the landscape. Low Vis evolved into a recognition of the role such systems play in our experience, safety, and quality of life. As Dr. Deb Chachra writes, “Infrastructure is the physical manifestation of our social contract—of our ability to work collectively for the public good.” When carefully designed and accessible, it serves everyone. When poorly designed, neglected, or inaccessible, the negative impacts are widely felt.  

This duality becomes a metaphor for our personal relationships. Working infrastructure, just like a healthy relationship, requires careful inspection, continual maintenance, and the possibility of repair just to achieve a basic outcome. By bringing your attention to these ordinary structures and symbols, Low Vis asks you to reflect on how both infrastructure and relationships benefit from constant care and collective responsibility.
